Chapter 2.12. COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION |
§ 2.12.080. Duties.
It shall be the duty of the commission to study problems of the relationships of the various races, colors, creeds and nationalities within the city and to advise and cooperate with the mayor, the city council, city department heads, and other city agencies, boards and officials with relation to such problems. The commission shall further make recommendations to the mayor and city council for the betterment of intergroup relationships within the community. The commission shall serve in an advisory rather than in an administrative capacity in performing these duties. The commission is further authorized to:
A.
Devise and recommend to the mayor and city council ways and means of discouraging and combatting prejudice, intolerance and bigotry in all groups and in their relations with one another;
B.
Discover all practices and policies calculated to create conflicts and tensions and recommend ways and means for their elimination;
C.
Report and recommend means of eliminating any unfair or unjust discrimination against any person or groups which would be deemed detrimental to the best interests of the community;
D.
Perform such other duties relating to human relationships as the mayor and city council see fit to request.
