§ 12.80.010. Special restrictions on lamps.

  • Unless otherwise provided by law, the color of lamps, illumination devices and reflectors upon any vehicle, equipment or any device moved by human power upon the streets or highways within the city limits shall be as follows:

    A.

    Front clearance lamps, identification lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color. No lamp, illumination device, or reflector, whether lighted or unlighted, which is visible from the front of any vehicle, equipment or device moved by human power shall be red in color unless expressly authorized or required by law.

    B.

    Rear clearance lamps, identification lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.

    C.

    All illumination devices and reflectors mounted on the rear of any vehicle shall display or reflect a red color, except the stop light or other signal device, which may be red, amber, or yellow, and except that light illuminating the license plate which shall be white and the light emitted by a backup lamp which shall be white or amber.

    D.

    Subsections A, B and C of this section apply to the color of the lamp whether lighted or unlighted, and to any reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light, except the stop light or other signal device, and the turn signal lamp visible to the rear which may be white, when unlighted.
