§ 12.32.050. Blind persons.

  • A.

    The carrying of a white walking stick or cane having a visible red stripe thereon by any person shall signify that such person is blind.

    B.

    It is unlawful for any person, other than a blind person, to carry on any street or sidewalk a white walking stick or cane having a visible red stripe thereon.

    C.

    The operator of any vehicle shall yield the right-of-way of any street or alley within the city to any unassisted blind pedestrian, except at intersections controlled by a signal light or a police officer, whenever such blind pedestrian shall indicate by holding aloft a white walking stick or cane having thereon a visible red stripe, that he is about to cross the street, and it shall be the duty of the operator of any vehicle to immediately stop such vehicle and remain standing until such blind pedestrian has reached a point of safety.

    D.

    The word "vehicle" as used herein shall include all motor-driven and horse-drawn vehicles, streetcars and bicycles.
